Seat Pleasant Community Development Corporation plays a leadership role in creating no and low interest, energy efficient home loans.
SPCDC administers a grant awarded from the Recovery Act for Greening the Community.
SPCDC provides FREE energy efficient upgrades that includes: energy audit, weatherization and retrofit of homes with 9, energy technology and energy star appliances.
SPCDC conducts a pilot training program leading to certification, job eligibility and on-the-job training in the emerging green economy for under and unemployed residents.
SPCDC fosters temporary/part-time and permanent jobs for hard- to-employ residents
SPCDC conceived an on-going streamlined process to provide forgivable environmental remediation home loans
Seat Pleasant has implemented outreach campaigns that include:
-Seminars targeting diverse groups from congressional staff to advocacy organizations
-GED Program for students self-referred, referred by courts, schools, social services
-SAT Preparation for students self-referred or referred by guidance counselors
-K-12 Tutoring and mentoring
-Food give-away in partnership with Community Ministries of Prince George's County
-Holiday Turkey give-away to residents of zip code 20743 and the Prince George's County Office of Senior Services
-Coalition leadership for establishing a Farmer's Market and Community Gardens designation by congressional staff to assist in drafting congressional housing earmarks
We have created a Strategic Plan to up-grade aged properties and to acquire surplus homes by
working with local workforce development office to identify participants to train
working with colleges to train participants in weatherization and basic construction
identifying funding for aged-property upgrades and advertised its availability
partnering with other non-profits to expand property upgrades program
identifying vacant/foreclosed properties to acquire and renovate to energy efficiency
working with local realtors, counseling organizations and the department of housing to
marketing, promoting and selling properties to 1st time buyers, seniors and workforce population
conducting 1st Time Homebuyer classes to prepare prospective buyers for homeownership
conducting financial literacy and credit counseling to equip buyers to be wise homeowners
conducting foreclosure prevention counseling for clients needing modifications
conducting mortgage mitigation counseling for clients to prevent defaults
